Udaipur Karawara, Rajasthan, India
My name is Lokesh Kalal and I have my Masters degree in Sociology from MLSU Udaipur. I have four years of experience in the development sector and youth community. I reside in Karawara where Alfa is located. My passion for youth development, child rights and women’s empowerment was reaffirmed with my participation in OXFAM’s ‘Stop Violence, Enhance Peace’ campaign and my work with Seva Mandir. My perspective on peace was forever changed following the 2002 Gujarat genocide. I found that people of different religious backgrounds were fighting for their causes and failed to see the good in their fellow man. This prompted me to work on communal harmony issues and help forge bonds of friendship between religious groups. The last four years were spent working on these community issues as well as youth development and children’s education. My goal is to promote leadership opportunities and gender equality through my work at Alfa. I host many capacity building workshops, children’s activities and community events at the Alfa office. All of my work is made possible through my current fellowship from Commutiny the Youth Collective located in New Delhi.
